Tree Pruning San Jose

Happy Holidays to all of you from all of us here at

Its that time of year again where we are on a constant go, go, go... with holiday shopping, family, great food, friends, and all the above. But with that being said, here in the bay area, though the holidays can definitely consume a lot of your time, but we still all need to be prepared for El Nino that is going to hit us pretty good according to experts. Are your tree's prepared for a storm of that caliber?

With the worst drought that we have ever had in recorded history, our tree's are not in the best of shape as they once were when we had a normal flow of rain. Do you know what you are doing when it comes to taking care of your trees?  Here is a great tip for all of you from CAL Fire:

Watering isn't just the only aspect when it comes to maintaining your trees, Pruning is just as important.

Here at Anderson's Tree Care Specialists, Inc. we have the services that arborists provide. We are a San Jose tree pruning company. Our arborists can determine the type of tree pruning necessary to maintain and improve the health, appearance, and safety of your trees.
These techniques include:

  • Eliminating branches that rub each other, removing limbs that interfere with wires, building facades, gutters, roofs, chimneys, or windows, or that obstruct streets or sidewalks.
  • Removing dead or weak limbs that pose a hazard or may lead to decay
  • Removing diseased or insect-infected limbs creating better structure to lessen wind resistance and reduce the potential for storm damage.
  • Training young trees.
  • Removing limbs damaged by adverse weather conditions.
  • Removing branches, or thinning, to increase light penetration.
  • Improving the shape or silhouette of the tree.

Pruning your trees on a regular basis keeps them healthy and beautiful. There are many tree pruning methods for different species of trees, and for how you want your trees to grow. Pruning a tree can help bring more sunlight to your lawn for healthy grass growth. It can also help keep your roof and gutters clear of debris. And keep those squirrels from getting in your house.

Tree Pruning Services San Jose

Since 1995, Anderson’s Tree Care Specialists, Inc. has been taking care of trees. Whether it’s in a large corporate environment or a residential space, we have what it takes to get any job done. Doug Anderson the owner/operator is very compassionate at the work he does. The crews have all been with Doug for several years which should tell you a little bit about the environment he creates for his employees. Our crews provide the very best customer service and w/out them, we wouldn’t be here today. (We pride ourselves on the fact that 80% of our work comes from previous customers and referrals.)

Tree root pruning process:
Trenching and digging in the soil near trees can cut roots, and this can damage the tree resulting in tree decline or the tree falling over. This is now a liability and there are many safety concerns. Root pruning is more dangerous for older mature trees than it is for younger more vigorous trees. Cutting roots greater than about one inch diameter during trenching and digging can mean problems for the tree. In some cases roots of one to three inches diameter represent the major structural roots holding the tree upright.

The impact from pruning roots depends on several factors. Damage typically increases with more cuts, bigger cuts, and cuts made closer to the trunk. Root pruning, trenching, and other construction activities close to the trunk result in more injury on shallow, compacted soils or on soils that drain poorly than on well drained soils. This is due to the shallow roots common on sites with shallow soils or high water table. Trees that are leaning are poor candidates for root pruning.

Factors affecting response of trees to root pruning:
  • Root Size - Larger roots may generate few new roots.
  • Number of Cut Roots - More roots cut means more tree stress.
  • Proximity of Cuts to the Trunk - The closer cuts are to the trunk the bigger the impact.
  • Species - Some species tolerate it better than others.
  • Tree Age - Old trees are more likely to stress and die.
  • Tree Condition - Trees in poor health should not be root pruned.
  • Tree Lean - Leaning trees should not be root pruned.
  • Soil Type & Site Drainage: Shallow soils mean stay farther from the trunk.

Tree Removal San Jose

Here we are in our 4th year of this historic drought, mandatory water reductions, dead grass, plants and shrubs becoming non existent, and our trees dying off.

With a 25% mandatory water usage cut back, many people are choosing not to turn on their sprinklers in fear of fines and have more or less just let everything go. This is not good! Many arborists and state officials are worried about a ripple effect: Nearby urban trees going neglected and becoming diseased and dying.

Did you know?
Across the state over 12 million trees have died in the last year due to lack of water according to the U.S. Forest Service. Though the bulk of these trees have died outside of urban areas, we are now finding that the same is now happening in our urban areas where mandatory water restrictions are heavily enforced.

STOP
You do not want to cut back on water to your trees, because your trees cannot adjust. What studies are finding is the trees that are lacking in water are now more susceptible to diseases and are ultimately killing off your trees. What this means to you is their is now a greater chance today then ever before of a tree crashing down and endangering not only your home, your family, but also anything in it's surrounding area.

What do I do?
  • First off, if you are even slightly worried about one of your trees, you need to give us a call. (408) 226-8733

Trees

Drought/Insects have now claimed more than 12 million trees

California in it's historic drought has definitely taken its toll on not only "us" the consumers of water, but has definitely effected our beloved trees. Lingering drought, rising temperatures and outbreaks of tree-killing pests such as bark beetles have spurred an increase in widespread tree mortality. With that being said, it is important for you the homeowner to recognize the effects and the toll it is taking on your trees.

The biggest risk a homeowner can face is public branch-dropping hazards, or trees such as the California sycamore and the coast live oak have started to succumb to the killer beetle/drought creating a fire risk in the form of dead, dry tinder.

We all need to be cognizant of our surroundings and make sure that we are taking the time to schedule a skilled arborist to come to your property to make sure that your trees are not only safe, if in the reach of the public, but are also healthy and not at risk of dying.

Tree Pruning San Jose

Tree Pruning Services in San Jose

We touched up a little bit last month about our job at Blackberry farms in Cupertino.  Lets talk a little bit more.

Here at Anderson's tree care, we focus on making sure your trees are taken care of.  Over growth can lead to branches falling, plants dying due to lack of sun as well as the tree.  It is important that you maintain your trees so these problems don't occur.

Take for instance this Eucalyptus tree at Blackberry farms,

As you can see, there is major overgrowth and in the next picture, you will see that to the left of the tree is a play structure for the kids.  The last thing you would ever want to have happen is a little wind to pick up and lead to something worse such as this most recent event.

So what are your thoughts when it comes to ensuring your children are safe?  This beautiful tree has now been pruned properly and has opened up plenty of sunlight shining down on the kids and has ultimately prevented a situation that you will see below and thank goodness, this wasn't as bad as it could've been.

When you see the video, and feel that maybe you need to take action, you are probably right.  Please CLICK HERE now to see the services we have to offer and know we will prevent just that above in the video.

We hope you take safety and harness that safety just as we do.  We hope to see you soon and remember, it is always better to be safer than sorry.

Tree Pruning San Jose

Have you been?

Blackberry Farms

Blackberry farms in Cupertino is a beautiful place to walk, take the family, there is a pool w/slides for the kids and play structures all around.

To maintain this beautiful park, it takes a skilled team of arborists and attention to detail to ensure you and your family is safe.  We most recently were out there and were able to prune a eucalyptus tree that had over grown and was taking over the park and becoming very unsafe for the children that would be playing on the structure below.  We sent a crew of eight guys and were able to get the job done and cleaned up with out any problems.  We will be back on this site to remove a tree as well.  There is nothing more dangerous then a tree that has rotted out and has died.  This tree is next to a popular walking path and if it were to fall, this would be bad news.  We are looking forward to going back to this site and taking out the tree to ensure the safety of everyone.

With the work being completed on this beautiful location in the city of Cupertino, we want to take this time to point out to you that there is no job too small or too big we cant't handle.  We are passionate individuals and love our work.  To find out more about Tree Pruning, or Tree Removals and the other services offered, please click the links, or visit our home page here.

We look forward to working with you soon and you all have a wonderful rest of your week.  And remember, if you are concerned about one of the trees on your property or the overgrowth of a tree could do damage to your property, you are probably 99% correct.  So please don't hesitate to give us a call anytime at (408) 226-8733.

Tree Planting San Jose

Plant a tree and reap the benefits.

Top ten reasons!

  1. Tree's combat climate change:  Trees absorb CO2, removing and storing the carbon while releasing the oxygen back into the air. In one year, an acre of mature trees absorbs the amount of CO2 produced when you drive your car 26,000 miles.
  2. Tree's clean the air: Trees absorb odors and pollutant gases (nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulfur dioxide and ozone) and filter particulates out of the air by trapping them on their leaves and bark.
  3. Tree's beautify your property: They are not only beautiful to have in your yard, but they are also wonderful shade providers on a hot summer day.
  4. Tree's save water: Shade from tree's slow water evaporation from thirsty lawns.
  5. Mental Health: There is something powerful about trees that can change your mood when you are down.  So take a walk and reap the benefits of the tree's.
  6. Provides privacy: Tree's are a great way to keep those peepin tom's from seeing in while you eat your dinner.
  7. Reduces your carbon foot print.
  8. Tree's mark the seasons: Pretty cool I think.  You know when it's winter, spring and summer.
  9. Home for the birds: Enough said!
  10. Why not?: Tree's are the way of life and we need them.  So plant now!

Tree Pest Control in San Jose

The month of January is coming to a close, but do you know what isn't?  "PESTS"

That's right, those pesky little pests will continue to live on and further destruction of your trees.

Here are a few common pests you might want to be concerned about:

    • Asian Long Horned Beetle (ALB): The adult will lay eggs in an opening in the bark.  Then the larvae will bore large galleries deep into the wood which in thus are feeding galleries which through time will disrupt the vascular functioning of the tree and in return weaken the tree to the point of it literally falling apart and dying.

    • Emerald Ash Borer (EAB): This destructive beetle was identified as the cause of "ASH TREE" decline and mortality in Detroit.  Detroit you say, yep' they have officially arrived in California.  Better to be safer then sorry!

    • Balsam Woolly Adelgid: The adults inject a substance that affects hormonal response of tree.  Can cause irregular outer rings, gouting around buds and branch nodes, stunted terminal growth, reduced cone and seed production and so forth and so on...  You get the picture!

    • Winter Moth: Well, it's all in the name.  These guys absolutely love to chew up all of the delicious leaves on the tree and can do significant damage in the winter leading into spring.  They primarily love the leaves on trees that produce fruits such as apple, pear and cherry trees.

So if you don't want these pests in your backyard, act now!

    Our methods include:
    • Altering Irrigation
    • Pruning
    • Planting Depth
    • Changing or addressing mulch issues
    • Spraying or applying plant treatments

Our goal is to keep your trees and shrubs healthy. Anderson's even has the necessary equipment to reach the tops of large trees to provide treatment. Our licensed applicators use sprays, pesticides and organic treatments when applicable to effectively treat a wide variety of pests including mites, gypsy moths, Emerald Ash Borer, deer ticks, winter moth and other types of intrusive insects that can harm your trees and shrubs. Tree Inventory San Jose

Happy New Years from all of us at Anderson's Tree Care.

Winter is still among us and as you know the weather has been fierce lately rather it be flooding from the big storm we had a couple weeks back, or the wind storm that blew strong and hard all throughout the bay area knocking down trees and power lines and so forth... So let's start 2015 right and make sure you know what trees are strong and healthy, where they are at and the condition they are in.

    Our Process:

A tree inventory is the gathering of accurate information on the health and diversity of the trees on the property. How many street trees are there? What kind? In what condition are they? You cannot manage the properties tree population effectively unless you know its condition. Tree inventories are an essential tool of good management.
Increase efficiency with a tree inventory by Anderson's Tree Care Specialists. A complete tree, street or forest inventory will help you manage the trees in your care, increase the productivity of crews that work with them, and make short-term budgeting and long-term planning much easier.

Anderson's can help you create a tree inventory that includes the following information about the trees on your property or in your community:
    • Quantities
    • Locations
    • Approximate ages
    • Species
    • Diameter
    • Site Characteristics
    • Damage
    • Special Conditions
    • Recommendations for maintenance or treatments required to maintain health

We can also help you keep your tree inventory information current with periodic evaluations and updates. If the number of trees in your care is so large that individual inventory is cost-prohibitive, we can create a sample tree inventory to help accurately estimate your needs.

    Our Tree Inventory Management Guarantee

Anderson's Tree Care Specialists offers a custom approach to residential and commercial tree inventory services that is guaranteed to match your needs and budget. Our skilled, insured large tree inventory management professionals guarantee that your job will be done safely.
